In 1981, Dan Gatlin planted one of the first commercial vineyards in Texas. One of the most research-oriented plantings at that time, Mr. Gatlin's vineyard included 22 European vinifera varieties. Over the next four decades, Mr. Gatlin amassed extensive growth and chemistry data from 8 vineyards and 44 vinifera varieties spanning 460 miles across Texas.
Mr. Gatlin's early research culminated in the launch of the Inwood Estates brand wines, centered on Tempranillo, Cabernet, and Chardonnay wine offerings produced from vineyards in the Texas High Plains and Dallas County. Harvest loads range from a high of 3.0 tons per acre down to an extraordinarily concentrated 0.29 tons per acre.
